Rees Lucia at Waywards (The Bank Hotel) (Newtown, NSW) on Thursday, 3 June 2021
~ Rees Lucia makes music for dreamers, poetry for lovers, reverie for the introverts at the party...

With each emotionally charged lyric delivered on a bed of acid folk sentiment infused with modern indie production, let Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist Rees Lucia draw you into her world of love, heartbreak, rumination and shimmering escapism. Akin to Big Thief, Aldous Harding and Jeff Buckley, the distinctive sound of Rees Lucia conjures nostalgic, brooding melodies, boldly unconventional composition, groove-quenching hooks and luscious harmonies. Commanding in the rawness of her voice, vulnerable in the deeply personal nature of her musings, Rees grips the room with her live performances. Her baring lyrics, moody guitar grooves and silky, haunting vocals will melt you into the sound.

Her 2019 debut EP, 'In/Congruence', recorded with Mark Myers (The Middle East, Greta Stanley, Emma Louise) earned the attention of radio play on Triple J, FBi and community stations across Australia and New Zealand, a sold-out launch show in Sydney, and the lead single was a finalist in the Frankie Magazine Good Stuff Awards.

After a Covid-year of hibernation and musical exploration, Rees Lucia is back with a new single, ‘Holding On’. The song was written in a single afternoon, in the crushing post-breakup limbo that so many lovers find themselves in. With a touch of cheesy prom-vibe production, and a saxophone solo that glides above the driving electric guitar, the heartbreaking core of this ballad will tug at your heart strings and swirl around in your ears for days.
